If you were coming to my house for a dinner party, chances are we’d be having crumble for dessert. It’s not that I can’t make other desserts, it’s just that crumble is so quick and easy to prepare and, more importantly, everybody seems to love it.
This recipe is for Apple Crumble – and I think you’re going to love it. It will take you less than ten minutes to prepare – and if it’s for a dinner party you can prepare it in advance and set aside to cook later.
To keep things simple, I use a cup measure. The cup should hold approx 250ml of liquid. This recipe will serve approx 4-6 people.
Apple Crumble Ingredients
1 large tin of cooked apples (approx 800g)
Approx 150g of butter, or your usual spread
1 cup of plain flour
Quarter cup of sugar
Half cup of oats
Apple Crumble Method
Empty cooked apples into over proof dish
In separate bowl rub together butter and flour until it looks a bit like bread crumbs (suggest you use disposable gloves – messy job)
Add sugar and oats to crumble mix and stir
Spoon crumble mix on top of the apples
Cook in moderate over for 30-40 minutes until golden brown on top
Serving Suggestions
Apple Crumble is delicious served with ice-cream, fresh cream or custard – or a combination of all three! It’s also delicious served hot or cold.
Variations
There are numerous variations to this apple crumble recipe. Try other tinned fruits like pear, peaches, rhubarb or mixed fruit, but don’t use all of the juice as it will make your crumble too ‘wet’. Mixed frozen berries also make a super crumble, but you’ll need to add a little sugar. If you have time, you can pre-cook fresh fruits. Just peel, core and cook gently in a small amount of water until soft. Don’t over-cook or it will end up like baby food.
